Dental Implants in Toronto

SERVICES

Dental implants fill gaps in your smile and help stabilize the overall structure of your teeth. Without a full set of teeth, everyday motions like chewing and biting compound over time to alter the positioning and stability of your bite. In the long term, an irregular bite can lead to other complications like:

Loss of alveolar bone

Gradual decrease of gum tissue

Loss of basal bone

Bite collapse

The effects of tooth loss listed above can all be prevented by installing dental implants, a relatively simple cosmetic dentistry procedure.

Dental implants are the top recommended method of replacing missing teeth for their efficacy and dependability. If a dental implant is well maintained it can last a lifetime, serving its owner just as effectively as a real tooth.

What are dental implants?

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root, typically made of titanium, which is surgically anchored into the patient’s jaw bone to hold a replacement tooth or bridge one in place. The term, “implant,” is used because the anchor is surgically implanted into the jaw bone.

A dental implant is made up of two parts: the titanium implant body which replaces the root and a crown cemented to the top of the implant which looks like a real tooth.

Dental implants are largely accepted as superior to their main alternative, dental bridges, because a dental implant doesn’t rely on neighbouring teeth for structural support. Dental implants are natural-looking and attractive in appearance, permanent, and stable, making them the ideal replacement for missing teeth.

Dental implants as dentures

Dental implants can also be used to anchor dentures and are particularly useful for anchoring lower dentures which tend to shift out of position when the patient speaks or chews. As an alternative to removable partial dentures, dental implants are more dependable for chewing and improve self confidence by creating a more natural-looking smile.
